Paul Greene Quoted in The Washington Post

Attorney Paul Greene was interviewed for an article published on August 18, 2023, that looked at the heartbreaking effects of a four-year suspension on Shelby Houlihan's running career. He discusses how her case progressed, including objections to the AIU’s original classification of her test. The lab considered the result an adverse analytical finding, which meant it believed the underlying markers of her test suggested intentional doping. Greene argued the lab should have considered it an atypical finding because the low level of nandrolone in her system was consistent with consuming contaminated meat, which would have required additional scrutiny of the test and meant Houlihan would have been placed under investigation and follow-up testing rather than immediately punished. Paul Greene Talks to ESPN, Reuters and USA Today About Russian Figure Skater Kamila Valieva’s Alleged Positive Drug Test During the 2022 Olympics

Figure skating phenom Kamila Valieva, 15, of Russia reportedly tested positive for a banned substance, which has subsequently led to the delay of the medal ceremony. While the delay occurred just this week, apparently the test was taken way back in December of 2021, which has led many people to wonder what took so long. To which, Paul had this to say:

"Sometimes these things get thrown to the lab and the lab sits on it for months, not through anybody's nefarious conduct, just through backups in lab testing.”

And while the situation has not yet been resolved, Paul hasn’t seen many cases this difficult.

“This is one of the most complicated situations I've seen and I've done these cases for a long time.”
